Securing MySQL connection - Help, please.
« on: May 30, 2012, 11:18:10 AM »

I'm having trouble tracking down what port/IP/address I need to use to secure my Alpha Five connection string on my server. I tried using localhost and the website's IP address (local to the machine/network; I don't know what it is globally.) Both result in the system not being able to access the Database. The only setting that works is %. I don't like this. I'd rather explicitly define sources. Any ideas out there for figuring out what I need to set it to? The setting I'm talking about is accessible via the MySQL Workbench:

Manage Security > Users and Privileges > Login > Limit Connectivity to Hosts Matching:

This is all new territory for me, so I'm open to any and all advice people may have.

I solved my problem. The answer was simple: Open Server Status and watch what Host connects whenever I do something on the website up on the server. Hooray!
